About this deal

One of those reasons was that she had been in mourning for her younger brother, Henry, who had died in battle.

But the muddle and difficulties and awkwardness of the next couple of days: that was very well done. Given that it’s a novella, and a short one at that, the couple resolve the inevitable conflict fairly quickly, and Dare even squeezes in an epilogue. He's kept his distance despite being in love with her forever, but with her brother gone Sebastian takes it upon himself to be her knight in shining armor when she jilted on her wedding day. Sebastian’s best friend’s sister Mary (who he has been pining after for years) is left at the altar, so obviously the only solution is to marry her himself. While Mary attempts to dissuade Sebastian by offering up several arguments against this idea, he will not be deterred, and they end up eloping that night by marrying at a small church where Sebastian makes a very generous donation to gain the speedy license.has really kicked my ass so I’m happy to finally be reading again and the quality of this one made me super happy. though when we arrived at page100, the scene where they made love, after dat the book seemed 2 drag on bcoz u c it was already very obvious they were ending up together n she had already broken off her engagement wid adam without any fuss. Her father and brother are both long gone, her brother’s title having gone to a distant cousin, and the only person that is really around for her is her brother’s best friend Sebastian Ives. It’s been hard to keep his hands off of Mary because he’s always been a little bit in love with her but when she needs him to step up for her, he doesn’t hesitate. Things seem to keep going from bad to worse on this ill-fated attempt at a honeymoon, but Mary is determined to make the best of it and to make her new husband her true husband despite his insistence that they take it slowly.

The main characters are facing some very tough choices at the start of the book, and what they impulsively end up agreeing to do leads to numerous circumstances that will change the lives of the couple in many unpredicted ways. When it appeared that Mary was being jilted at the altar by her fiance, Sebastian stepped up and married her in the man's place, then took her to his seaside cottage for a short honeymoon. I liked that both Sebastian and Mary had a history together and that they genuinely cared about each other so it made everything we find out, everything going on make sense. I think novellas are great for trying out an author’s writing style without the commitment of a full length and this sounds like it was fun.Sebastian and Mary are a “best friend’s little sister” pairing except that they’re a “best friend’s slightly-older sister” pairing. Tessa Dare is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than twenty historical romances. The discussions between Sebastian and Mary also contained lots of witty banter, which left me smiling at their sharp minds.

It's the first rule of friendship among gentlemen: Don't even think about touching your best friend's sister. When the newlywed couple arrives at the quaint home, they find it in a pretty poor state of disrepair as the caretakers have obviously not kept it up despite the continued, generous payments for its upkeep. Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! But there had to be SOME conflict and it's hard to properly develop conflict in an 80-odd page novella, so I'll accept it.
